Exercising Faith Through Thinking By Francis Bills

I’m going to talk a little bit about my own personal observations for a minute to see if you can relate.

I’ve always wondered why people do what they do. More specifically, why many people don’t do what they truly want to do.

It appeared to me as if there was some mysterious force lingering around people which kept them doing that in which they didn’t want to be doing.

I instinctively knew that as individuals, we have the choice to decide what it is that we want to do and we can decide what it is that we don’t want to do.

So it intrigued me to understand, "What was holding people (myself included) back from doing what we truly desired?"

What was this mysterious force that hovered around people and kept them where they were?

After much thought and contemplation, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a combination of factors but the number one reason is fear.

I wanted to find out the cause of this fear. A fear so deep that people will live their entire lives engaging in things that they don’t enjoy doing.

Not only that but they also never take a moment to think about what it was that they truly wanted to do in their lives. Or maybe they did at one point and then gave up on their dreams after a set-back or a string of set-backs.

So where does this fear originate from? Why do some people possess it but others seem oblivious to it? These are questions that came to my mind and these are questions that I wanted to try to understand and answer.

My thinking is, “If we can understand where our fears originate from, we’d be better equipped to eliminate them”.

It has been said that humans are born with only two basic fears; the fear of falling and the fear of loud noise. The thousands of other fears that we have were created in our own minds.

Even though this observation could probably be contested, the premise is not too far off.

Most of our fears are self-imposed. We make ourselves fearful by thinking fearful thoughts.

Now, you can say, “Well, if you had to go through what I had to go through or experience what I experienced, you’d be fearful too”.

I’m not here to judge your past experiences or difficulties or to diminish those experiences. But those experiences may be what’s keeping you from moving on and moving past your fear.

Fortunately for us, we have the power to change. Every day we have the opportunity to start fresh. We can choose to think constructive, positive and empowering thoughts. We can choose to exercise gratitude for what we currently have.

We can use our past experiences for strength and use them in a positive, constructive and empowering way. But only if that’s how we choose to think about them.

We put our power into whatever we think about, with emotion, repeatedly and faithfully.

Think about this.

What are you giving your power to?

With faith and gratitude,

Francis J. Bills
