How to Be Coachable by Francis Bills

1.     Lose your unhealthy ego.

A healthy ego can be used constructively to give you the confidence to take on whatever you set out to do, but it becomes unhealthy when you think you know it all.

Thinking you know it all is when you stop improving, learning and expanding.

To be coachable, you must get over yourself and get out of your own way. There is always room for improvement.

2.   Be open and receptive to new ideas, perspectives, and new and different ways of doing things.

Be comfortable not knowing, especially in the midst of uncertainty.

Be receptive to new and different people, places and situations.

Be adaptable.

3.   Be willing to learn and to take action on new and different ideas from wherever and from whomever they come from.

We can all learn something from everyone. Take the good, what’s applicable to your life, what works, and leave out what doesn’t.

Accept what’s good, reject what’s not.

4.   Keep a creative mindset.

Envy, jealousy, and a feeling of comparing ourselves with others puts us in a competitive mindset.

The competitive mindset is based on fear. Fear that there’s not enough, fear that what you have will be taken, and fear that someone else might get the thing that you want.

The creative mindset comes from the belief in abundance, power, courage and strength.

To have the creative mindset, you believe that anyone is capable of having that in which they truly want and that it is not dependent upon stepping on the backs of others to get it.

You can never get what you want at the expense of anyone. Remember this.

5.    Continually express gratitude for all that you have. Be sure to include everything in your gratitude because even the not-so-good things in life reveal to you what truly matters to you.

6.   Listen. Listen to connect and understand.

It takes effort and concentration to truly listen, but the rewards of investing your attention on listening and following your intuition will always take you to your desired goal.

Thank you.
