Whenever we set out to achieve a goal, make a New Year’s Resolution, or begin a new project, we usually start from where we are and look at the goal as a distant, far off reality.
An alternative way to look at goals and goal attainment is to look at it and live it FROM the end, the desired result.
In my Goal Creation Step 3, I discuss the importance of visualization in reaching our goals. Of having a clearly defined, specific image of what you want.
Architects, engineers, builders, landscape designers and many others are very skilled in this ability to visualize a project before it is completed.
We all have this ability and we can use it in creating a vision for ourselves and for the attainment of our goals.
Q. So how, specifically, do I live FROM the desired state or goal?
A. To live from the end or the desired state, you must first have a clear, definite vision or image of what you are accomplishing.
*Notice the use of present tense in that last sentence. Always speak about your goals in the present tense.
For example, it’s not, “I will do it” or “I am going to do it” but, “I am doing it”.
Next, identify and describe the feelings or emotions that correspond with the attainment of your vision?
For example, it could be joy, love, wealth, health, well-being, happiness, vitality, courage, energy, strength and freedom.
Finally, with your vision of the desired result clearly defined and the emotions which correspond to the desired result firmly established and embodied, live in this state of mind as you achieve your goals.
It’s the state of mind that comes first.
The joy, love, wealth, health, well-being, happiness, vitality, courage, energy, strength and freedom come FROM you, not to you.
Live from and in the spirit of what you envision.
Keep your vision in mind at all times, have faith (applied/active faith), and continue to exercise gratitude every day for what you currently have.
Thank you,
Francis Bills
