Now that you HAVE the solution and know what you want to do, it’s time to take action.
How many times have we read about, listened to, heard about, watched or thought about a great idea to improve our lives or business but didn’t act on it?
Make a promise to yourself that you’re not going to do the same thing with this idea that I’m going to share with you right now.
I promise that if you use this method, you’re productivity will increase dramatically in your business and personal life.
Usually when we come across a great idea, we’re not in a location where we have the ability to implement it right away.
For example, let’s say that you’re on the subway heading to work. You’re not in the position to implement an idea for a new exercise routine until you get to the gym (unless you’re o.k. with doing squat thrusts on the train).
So what do we do in this type of situation when we're not in the place where we can implement an idea right away?
We write it down. We take notes.
Why is writing down our ideas so effective?
In a previous blog titled, “The Importance of Writing”, I discuss how writing helps you to remain focused and helps you to absorb the information in which you’re learning about.
Writing also helps to improve your memory and enhances your awareness of the information being studied as you go about your day.
But another key component of the power of writing down your ideas is that you are taking action. You are doing something with the information and not letting it be forgotten.
Charles Duhigg states in his book titled “Smarter Faster Better” that; “…when we encounter new information and want to learn from it, we should force ourselves to do something with the data.”
Allow me to provide an example to demonstrate the importance of writing down your ideas.
Let’s say it’s Friday night and you come up with a great idea in regards to your health, wealth or well-being. If you don’t do anything with the idea, it’s possible, actually very probable, that you’ll never act on it.
But if you write it down, you capture the idea, you preserve it. You can return to it on Saturday, which increases the likelihood of taking action on it tremendously.
When we don’t write out or create a method to document our ideas, plans, or goals, we leave them to chance.
We think that we’ll remember them again another time or get to them later. But when we don’t write out what we truly want, that other time becomes never.
Practical Exercise:
Take one of the ideas or solutions that you’ve come up with for your particular challenge.
Implement it.
You wouldn’t have come up with the idea if you didn’t think you were capable of doing it.
Believe in yourself, implement it and enjoy the process.
Here are a few ideas or suggestions to stimulate thought. I’m not telling you what to do, I’m just providing some examples of things that you can implement into your life:
Financial Idea to Implement Immediately:
Open up a Roth IRA with Vanguard Investments.
Health & Fitness Idea to Implement Immediately:
Do 30-60 minutes of aerobic activity three times a week.
Overall well-being Idea to Implement Immediately:
Take an hour each day for yourself to engage in an enjoyable activity.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and please be sure to write down any of your ideas, goals and solutions to achieving your goals.
And of course, be sure to take efficient action on your goals each day.
To your continual success,
Francis Bills
