Have you ever had someone teach, train or explain something to you?
Have you ever had someone show you specifically how to do something, either work related or just in general?
Have you ever received and applied a practical suggestion or solution from someone that catapulted your results or expanded your perspective?
Have you ever observed someone, either in your organization, industry, or career field and then decided to implement some of their character traits or methods of doing something?
Have you ever been stimulated by an idea, either following or while listening to a talk, reading a book, reading an article, or reading an insightful coaching blog?
Maybe some of the insights helped you in making a particular task a bit easier, or possibly saved you time, money or energy. Maybe you gained a larger, expanded perspective on what’s possible.
What about in the area of your personal hobbies and interests?
Maybe you learned some great tips from your favorite YouTuber, Podcaster, blogger or social media influencer.
If so, then you understand and have experienced the value of coaching.
You may not have considered the above-mentioned items to be “coaching” per se, but any type of learning can be considered personal development, which is what coaching is all about.
Just because the business or accounting book you’re reading isn’t in the personal development section of the library or bookstore, it doesn’t mean that it’s not personal development.
It doesn’t matter what you choose to call it; whether it’s coaching, teaching, training or mentoring, it’s all one and the same.
Any and all types of learning and skill attainment can be considered personal development, whether it’s public speaking, sales, digital marketing, learning a trade, or learning how to play a sport or an instrument.
Personal development of any kind is important and can have a profound effect on every other area of your life in a positive way, as long as you are consistently learning, remaining focused, and most importantly, continuing to apply what you learn.
This shift in perspective or mindset, if you weren’t already sold on the value of coaching or personal development, has the ability to enhance everything in your life.
You’ll begin to see, or become more aware of how every experience in your life is an important and relevant step in your growth, well-being and advancement.
The practice of listening, observing, and accepting advice from people who are getting the results that you’d like to experience in your own life and business is also a large part of personal and professional development.
But, as always, you must be willing and open to learning, receiving and implementing the good ideas that are provided and resonate with you, from wherever they may come.
Q. But wait a minute Francis, didn’t you say that everything was from within? Why do I have to look to others?
A. It’s true, everything is from within, and you’re not looking to others. You are expanding your awareness from within, from the inside out.
This expanded awareness attracts and reveals to you the people, circumstances, and conditions that you have opened yourself up to accept and make as part of your life experience.
Q. So how does this mindset help me in my day to day life?
A. This Personal Development Mindset, if embraced, is a truly integrative approach to coaching, where everything we do and all that we attract is included in and is a part of our growth.
Personal growth and development becomes our way of life and we benefit by remaining attuned to the vast amount of opportunities to increase and improve every day, in every area of our lives.
We don’t let ourselves get discouraged because we view everything, even the challenges, as opportunities to improve.
We remain enthusiastic each day because we see that we receive the results that we want, simultaneously or AS we invest our attention, time, effort, energy, and persistence in whatever we want to be, do or have.
As always, it’s not just in the reading, watching or listening to the good ideas and suggestions, it’s in the doing, the applying, and in the use of the knowledge attained where we receive the greatest benefit and results.
To your continual success and growth in all of your endeavors,
Francis Bills
