We know that what we focus our attention on gets magnified, so what are we focusing our attention on when we begin to think negatively, get upset or get frustrated?
Negative thoughts, anger and frustration are caused by thinking and focusing on what we don't want, don't have or don't like.
Being the master's of our fate, the captain's of our soul as Henley states in his poem "Invictus", we know that we determine what we choose to think, feel and believe.
By taking possession of our own minds, we have the power to reverse any negative thought to it's positive equivalent, if we choose.
We can choose to think upon and appreciate what we do want, do have and do like.
We can choose to set the standard, for ourselves and others.
We give away our power and energy when we allow anything or anyone outside of ourselves to affect our emotional well-being.
We may not be able to accurately identify where the negative thought originated from, but we most certainly have the power and ability to alter its course to prevent it from leading us away from our greater good.
Here are 3 practical steps that you can implement today to eliminate destructive thoughts:
Reverse the thought to its opposite, constructive thought
Use the technique of imagining a stop sign or director's block and say, "Stop" or "Cut" to move on and change any negative thoughts when they appear. You could also say, "Next" or "Moving On"
Focus on what is right in your life, what's good and what you are grateful for
